Many things can cause small teeth to be sensitive<\/a>, but when should you visit your Hillsboro kid\u2019s dentist? Dr. Michael Royse, our pediatric specialist, has some tips and signs to look out for.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

New Teeth<\/h3>\n

Babies may experience sensitivity and pain when their first teeth arrive, and this is a good time to schedule their first dental appointment at Dentists at Orenco for Kids. You may see an increase in discomfort when their molars come in. Children who are beginning to loose their baby teeth may also have a little sensitivity as their teeth become wiggly, fall out, and new adult teeth arrive.<\/p>\n

All of this is quite normal, however if you feel your child is have excessive pain, we always encourage patients to call Dentists at Orenco for Kids with questions or concerns. We may recommend seeing your child for an examination.<\/p>\n

Tooth Decay or Cavities<\/h3>\n

Tooth sensitivity can sometimes be caused by tooth decay, which can lead to cavities. Look at your child\u2019s teeth, if you see any dark spots contact our office right away. The more proactive we are about cavities, the quicker they can be treated with the least invasive treatment.<\/p>\n

Children should have regular dental visits just like adults, and we\u2019ll screen them for tooth decay at each examination. It may not seem like such a big deal to protect baby teeth from decay if they\u2019re going to fall out anyway; baby teeth however, have many important jobs such as helping your child learn to speak and navigate solid foods, as well as being guides for the adult teeth coming in down the road.<\/p>\n

Teeth Grinding<\/h3>\n

Grinding or clenching your teeth, or bruxism, which usually occurs at night, can also cause children sensitivity. You might hear them grinding their teeth during sleep, or notice wear on their teeth. This is a good time to come in for an examination, or discuss your concerns with Dr. Royse at your child\u2019s next checkup<\/a>. Your child may need to wear a night guard to protect their teeth from the sensitivity and damage caused by bruxism.<\/p>\n
