Yet, tooth decay is mostly preventable. Start your child’s oral hygiene<\/a> routine early to protect their smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Oral Hygiene for Babies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Start caring for your baby’s oral health early by wiping their gums twice daily with a soft, clean cloth. This helps remove bacteria and sugars that can cause decay. Once their baby teeth come in, use a soft-bristled toothbrush with plain water twice daily. Ensure the toothbrush is the right size and has the ADA’s Seal of Acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ensure your child has their first dental checkup before turning one year old. Regular dental visits help them become familiar with the dental team, making future appointments easier. Plus, it allows the dentist to track their smile’s development and address any concerns promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Oral Hygiene for Young Children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Monitor your child’s brushing routine as their baby teeth continue to emerge. They should brush for two minutes, twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Around age six, their baby teeth will start to fall out, making way for adult teeth. With the new teeth, it’s essential to introduce daily flossing to ensure optimal oral hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continue scheduling your child’s dental appointments every six months for cleanings and checkups. These visits provide opportunities for cavity-prevention treatments such as dental sealants and fluoride varnish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around the age of 6 or 7, consider scheduling an orthodontic consultation to address any potential bite or alignment issues early on.
