Concern #1: Gum Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gum disease can affect people of all ages, genders, and abilities, but it tends to occur at a younger age and more often in those who have special needs. Bacteria in their mouths are eager to penetrate their connective tissues, and if it\u2019s hard for them to brush and floss, they\u2019re more likely to develop gingivitis. This earliest stage of gum disease starts small but often progresses because it doesn\u2019t always exhibit visible symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone can develop bruxism, but it is more common among kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder, cerebral palsy, and certain genetic disorders. Over time, it can erode their teeth, making them more susceptible to sensitivity. It can also contribute to jaw pain and headaches, particularly first thing in the morning.
