Frequently Asked Questions

Do my kids need to visit the dentist twice a year?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and our dedicated team recommend kids visit the dentist at least twice a year in order to maintain the optimal level of oral health and prevent most oral health issues.

What are dental sealants?

Dental sealants are thin, clear coats of a plastic material that protect teeth by sealing out potentially damaging bacteria. We can quickly, painlessly apply sealants during any dental checkup, and with proper care, sealants last up to ten years.

Do my kids need fluoride treatments?

Topical fluoride treatments help fortify tooth enamel by attracting minerals that strengthen this porous material protecting it from the weakening effects of acidic foods, bacteria, and plaque. If your child shows signs of having softer enamel or being more vulnerable to decay, we’ll likely recommend topical fluoride application during their next visit.

What’s the difference between an amalgam and a tooth colored filling?

Amalgam fillings are made from a number of metals shaped outside of the mouth and bonded to the tooth after formation. Tooth colored fillings match the natural color of patients’ teeth. They are applied and shaped directly onto the tooth in a malleable form and hardened once they are in position creating a strong, durable bond with the enamel.

My child gets nervous about visiting the dentist. Can you help?

Absolutely. Our team has years of experience working with the unique behavioral needs of kids, and we work hard to make sure your child is comfortable during dental visits. However, some kids may need extra assistance staying relaxed. We offer a variety of sedation dentistry options for these young patients.

What if we have a dental emergency?

Contact our team right away. We’re here to help when our patients need us. We try to see emergency patients on the same day they call, and if that isn’t possible, we offer first aid tips to keep your child safe and pain free until they arrive at our office.
